Fairfield Alabama Housing Authority

The mission of the Fairfield Alabama Housing Authority is to provide drug-free, decent, safe and sanitary housing to eligible families, and to provide opportunities and promote self-sufficiency and economic independence for public housing residents.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides federal assistance to the FAHA which manages 298 units in Demetrius Newton Gardens and Mattie Gill Jackson Gardens.

FAHA is recognized as a housing community where everyone is held to a higher standard of accountability. This promotes the opportunity to “Build for a Better Tomorrow.”

Building For A Better Tomorrow

Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to high-rise apartments for elderly families.

Who is Eligible ?

Public housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. An HA determines your eligibility based on

  • Annual gross income.
  • Whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a disability, or as a family.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status.
